In Massachusetts, there are two main types of workers’ compensation benefits: income replacement and medical care coverage. The amount of compensation rewarded for each is dependent upon the extent of the worker’s injuries and how long the worker will be out of work.
Income replacement refers to lost wage recovery. An injured worker can receive 60% of their gross weekly wage for up to 156 weeks. For injuries that lead to permanent disability, the worker is compensated for as long as the disability is present.
Medical care coverage will cover expenses for all of the worker’s medical needs following the accident, including mileage reimbursement for hospital visits and any prescriptions given by a doctor. The workers’ comp insurance company will pay for all medical expenses as long as they are within reason, or accident-related.
